From 2010 to 2012, Pedro Mandarino attended drawing and painting classes at Parque Laje, Rio de Janeiro, under the guidance of artist Orlando Mollica, and developed his color palette and drawing techniques. Those classes were decisive for his decision to become a professional artist. In 2012, he took painting and artwork discussion classes at Parque Lage with João Magalhães. In the same year, his first exhibition, “Transbordantes Estranhamentos Contrastantes”, curated by Orlando Mollica, João Magalhães and Bob N, was held at the Everest Hotel gallery (Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro). Later in 2012, Pedro Mandarino started an art residency with artist Edgar Fonseca. There he intensified his work and was encouraged to explore and deepen his painting techniques and learn to use new materials, such as watercolor and oil pastel. He joined Chave Mestra (Santa Teresa Artists Association) from 2016 to 2018, collectively taking part in the “Santa Teresa de Portas Abertas” event editions during this period. Since 2018, he has taken the “Project Monitoring” classes under the guidance of Isabel Portella and Jozias Benedicto, which has since then supported the formatting of his works, stimulated performance as part of his process and enabled him to write about his artistic production. He currently develops the Gallery Artist project, which was exhibited in 2020 at the collective exhibition “Assim se Conta Essa História”, curated by Isabel Portella and Jozias Benedicto, held at Espaço Cultural Sérgio Porto.
